Slip Your Shoes Off… Or Not
Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

One of the biggest tips for brides when they find shoes for their big day is to wear them in before your big day. As women, we know that in general, shoes may feel like the most comfortable pair in the world when you try them on. You look forward to wearing them on a big night out. You slip them on, go out and an hour later you want to rip them off and burn them at the stake. It’s always good to wear them in by walking around the house for a couple of days.

Another shoe problem that many brides have unexpectedly is foot sweat. I know, I know, doesn’t sound very pretty. However, whether you are having a wedding in the middle of the summer or an indoor winter church wedding, standing around for hours can cause unwanted foot moisture. This can cause your foot to slip to the front of your shoe, cause blisters and pain. What should you do to avoid this? Make sure you or your planner add foot spray to your wedding day survival kit. The best kind that keeps your foot dry and doesn’t leave a colored film is athletes’ foot powder spray.

It is in spray form but when it dries on your foot it becomes a colorless powder that will not leave your feet looking “ashy”. The spray can be found at any Target, Walmart or grocery store in the foot care isle and usually costs about $4. Believe me, it will be $4 well spent!

Don’t Know How? This is How?
Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

I used to be creative with my eyeshadow. I have this large pallet of MAC makeup and I used to blend colors together and everything. And then I forgot how? A lot of times, women like to bipass makeup artists and do it themselves.

If you don’t know how, this is how…

Never say “Updo”
Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

As you probably know already, whenever you say the word wedding to any vendor, the price automatically shoots up. I like to keep the word “wedding” to myself until the last possible minute.

Another word to stay away from is “updo”. When you go to get your hair done for the wedding, you don’t have to go to a high priced salon and get a high priced wedding do. Planning ahead (like always) goes a long way.

My tips to a lavish hair style for less:
1. Of course do a practice run.
2. Find a SuperCuts, Hair Cuttery or another salon you can trust to for a simple service.
3. Get a roller set. Curls are the starting point for most fancy hair styles.
5. Buy bobby pins that match your hair color. They come in all shades to match blondes, brunettes, and even grays.
4. Go home and have fun. Find pictures, narrow them down and practice. You can do more than you know. Don’t be overwhelmed because most looks are easy to emulate.
5. Go to a wholesale jewelry place to find a nice studded piece for your hair. Many wholesale places will sell you just one piece for less than $20.

Here are some lavish hair styles that anyone can do with a little practice:

Spa Week Is Back!!!!
Saturday, March 21st, 2009

I just received some bad news a couple of days ago. My favorite spa has closed down. The good news is that Spa Week will be here soon so I can try out some new spas without breaking the bank.

Started by a savii New Yorker, she says the concept was simple; full service treatments, normally costing from $100 to $200 dollars, for just $50 dollars. No longer would spa be relegated to the wealthy; it is her mission to make it an affordable part of a healthy lifestyle.

Participating spas across the country offer a number of different services for $50. This is great as a gift to your bridal party or for yourself. You could even schedule a spa day for you and your fiance. Just visit SpaWeek’s site and find a participating spa near you!

I personally will be going to get a facial and a message. Talk about living lavish on a dime!

Your Makeup Artist
Sunday, March 15th, 2009

Every bride on her wedding day wants to look like she was airbrushed to perfection.

Your first instinct is to go the makeup counter in the mall and have them do your makeup for your big day.

There are two problems with that:

1. It can be expensive.  Some places will charge you a flat rate of ~$60 or they will charge you a lower rate but will force you to buy the makeup that they use.

2. What about your bridal party?  They might not want to spend that extra ~$60 and will be forced to do it themselves. This will, no doubt, lead to an un uniformed look.

The solution: Look on Craigslist for makeup artists who do weddings. They will  have deals such as $20 a face. This way, you come out paying less, your wedding party won’t have to take another large expensive and everyone looks uniform.

Who did I use? SoChevon did our makeup. She is an Atlanta Based makeup artists who uses all MAC makeup!
